Waiting: A Hades Story
He stood on a field filled with dying poppies. They died because of his uninvited presence. That's what happened when the Lord of Underworld went up to the surface of the earth, he thought sheepishly. Hades sighed and put his hands in his khakis' pockets, and stood regally, waiting.
The last day of Summer seemed to be angry at him; not a single God or creature stopped by and talked to him. When it reached this time around, he had wished he would bring Hecate or Thanathos along; at least stood by either of them would make him looked less God of Underworld and more to still-not-over-his emo-phase-adult. His pathetic thought vanished as Iris passed by, glared at him. His attention to say ‘Hi’ stopped midway. “Don’t mind me.” Trying to be nice, she said, “Just finished my duty sending a message to Hera.” and followed by a weird chuckle that eventually stopped, followed up with even more glare for him. Hades received it with a small smile; at least she talked to him, first.
Then his brother Zeus cast a thunder above him, meant to be a friendly gesture, like; ‘Aye, finally your woman comes back to you huh?’ or ‘Wow, you came out from your cave!’ followed by many inappropriate and tryhard jokes. It made him cringe in annoyance. He wouldn't be here if Zeus wasn't an airhead. All the chaotic things happened between him and Demeter was caused by that brother's weak measures of judgments. It would be a disaster if both of them changed roles, with that brother would come down to the Underworld and handled all the souls. Hecate would curse Zeus every chance she got and he would probably forget to feed Cerberus! Hades grinned at his foolish imagination.
Then, Northwind brushed his face swiftly but strong that he stumbled back. The wind made him turned his head sideways, avoiding dust that would go into his eyes. His vision met the trees and flowers that he hadn’t touch with his presence. He noticed that the Nymphs that took care of them disappeared and he knew it was because they feared him. The world above was unkind to him most of the time due to his only and most well-known drama between an Olympian. He could even feel Demeter cursed him from afar too. That Goddess and her temper.
But it didn’t matter. It was one of those days that he was genuinely happy. Even his body became weaker seconds after second standing on the surface of the earth, and his dark hair that he recently cut short slowly became salt and pepper, and his black suit demanded him to cast an instruction for it to turned to his black armor- he finally seeing Persephone after six long months. Not today, Hades retorted to his outwear, reminded himself it would be any minute now.
He was a lonely deity for millennia but the Fates truly graced him warmth.
When she finally appeared at the edge of the field where he stood, dark hair with shiny sun-kissed skin, flower crown surrounded her head like a queen she was, and her yellow floral dress swayed followed the wind, Hades smiled and waited for her to come to him. He intertwined his hands tightly behind his back, not letting his absolute longing for her show more than he needed her to see. She was so beautiful. Every step she took, a flower bloomed in her footsteps and die instantly when she continued walking. Queen of the Underworld and the Goddess of Spring, and above all, Hades’s equal.
Her playful smile turned to frown when she came nearer, and Persephone was too quick on her feet when she skipped to him. Hades managed to catch her by the waist when she almost tripped. “Clumsy girl.” He chuckled and held her tighter. The heat in his body swelled when she cupped his face with her palms. Her purple eyes stared at him so worryingly. “Your hair, its turning gray!”
Hades shook his head, “Its new but I am alright. Happens since there barely enough mortals worship us anymore.” he explained. It happened to all the Greek Gods; Zeus included. They were only remembered as characters from epics and legends and history. Hades understood that the Olympians were not suitable for the modern world as powerful divinities, they were more suit as an art and literature form. Civilizations nowadays were more of a critic on them than a worshipper. An embarrassing ‘Oh’ came out from Persephone, Hades let go of her and she adjusted her dress. “I haven’t seen you for a while. I was scared because when I tamed flowers during Spring and help the mortals in the fields, I barely remembered your face in my dreams.”
Hades blushed. “You dreamed of me?”
“Well, yes. Every night.” Every night! “You’re my love after all.” She said truthfully. Thanks to the gods Hades hid his blushing well.
“Should we leave?’ Persephone held his hand. “I bet my mother feels agitated the longer we’re here. And I miss Cerberus.”
“Yes, yes.” He mumbled and moved when she tugged him to walk beside her. Hades summoned a portal to the entrance of Underworld, where he could see Charon peeking through, waiting for the King and Queen to cross the river of Styx.
When they were a step closer reaching the Underworld, Persephone paused her tracks. “What's wrong?” He asked, facing her.
Her eyes glimmered to him. “I haven’t done one thing.” She said. Before Hades could ask for more, Persophone grabbed his face and kissed him innocently. If he was also the God of Fire, there would be a flame burning on his head. Her lips were like nectar, curing every loneliness that he has, replace with joy bloomed in him. He kissed her back. He almost forgot how soft her lips were and how careful she moved them, tenderly kissing him. He couldn’t wait for them to be alone. She pecked his lips two more times before letting go. Persephone smiled and you could see the sunlight beaming on her skin. “Let's go!” She said and started to march again.
Hades flicked his finger. Her flower crown turned one full of asphodels and jewels. Persephone not realizing, and waiting, lend out her hand for him to follow her.
Hades smiled, took her hand, and they went home.

The reason I wrote this oneshot even because I saw a picture and I was like "Modern Hades would wear that!!!"
