POC in Movies
January 08, 2016
Me need more People of Colour to be represent.
Meaning of POC (People of Colour): as in everybody except caucasians (white people)
Seriously, as if get racist on wasn't enough, the almost zero people of colour represent in movies and characters (I mean, as the Main ones) had made me pissed off sO MUCH.
WHY is it sO hard to find people who aren't white to be cast in movies oR tv shows that are about people of colour's specific cuLTURE?
How can you be so damn racIST when it comes to making a films or tv shows about a certain race but the actor(s) wasn't part of the race themselves? HOW CAN YOU BE THIS DAMN RUDE?
Me, as a people of colour myself, OF COURSE I feel super effing offended because of this. How could you making and recreating other race's history and culture without the ACTUAL people to present it??!!
*Calms self*
Okay, I'm blogging today talk or recommend some movies that has POC as the important characters on that specific genre. And no, The Help and To Kill A Mockingbird will not be in this list (even though i LOVE them). I would like to focus on movies that very...chill about having POC in it and their movies and doesn't deal about their problem of being racist on or other racist problems.
I'm just going to talk about movies that have People of Colour as an important characters and such.
So, Let's start , nerds!
1. Star Trek (Movies and the Tv Shows)
C'mon People. Because of Star Trek, the fist interracial kiss happened! Uhura and Spock happened! (OTP)
I've always love Star Trek and the casting were A+. The were on of the first (I think) that bravely cast people of colour in their franchise (Back in the 60's and you know...racism were pretty bad that time...)
My favourite character always been the Doctor McCoy and Khan Noonien Singh (Benedict Cumberbatch version) because hOLY COW THAT MAN IS SO MANIPULATIVE.

2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Bitch, who said that having POC as the main characters in Star Trek would make this movie flop?
BITCH, WHERE?!
As a beloved story and franchise, I think JJ Abrams did a wonderful job on making POC involved in this movie. I mean, to people who opposed this casting, let me ask you something;
"Racist ass, if you can enjoy a movie(s) about space and accept Aliens to be in the movies, why don't you accept your own kind (humans)? Why you have to be so blatantly dumb to opposed some people that have different skin colour from you? Please go and get educated. (:"
I laughed everytime when Finn did the sass (I watched this movie two times)
And POE DAMERON IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE.

As a reader of the series, and as a lover of the movies, I'll always think that people who love the Maze Runner because they, with any conscious, enjoyed interracial friendships and interaction.
When TMR came out and I was obsessed with it, I'll always ask my friends this;
"Hey, who are your favourite character in the movie?"
I would get a tons of answers and I love doing it!
We have Minho, Alby, Winston, Brenda, Jorge and LOTS OF RACES AND I JUST UGHHHH YASSSSS~!

4. Home
I love this movie so much. The main character is a black girl, who is very smart and mature and it was such a beautiful and I couldn't thank enough to the creators of the movies.

5. Me and Earl and The Dying Girl
I enjoyed the book mostly because of Earl. I enjoyed the movie so much also because of Earl. Earl is my favourite character.
He was straightforward, looks mean but really kind at heart. Although from a family of gangs (his brother) and basically a broken home, Earls still fascinates me and I just loveeee this movie.
((Also this movies is indie and is FUCKING GOOD)

6. Night at The Museum
WHY THE FUCK THIS MOVIE IS SO UNDERRATED?
From the history to the cast of each character were done so well. I cannot stress how much I want people to watch this movie. I don't care that it targeted for kids. JUST WATCH IT.
The history for each of the characters were true.
(Except for the Egyptian prince and the Roman and the cowboy. They were fictional)
From Theodore Roosevelt quotes and the Mongolians. iT DONE SO SO FUCKING well that it still amazed me and it has been 10 years since the first movie were first came out.

7. Big Hero 6
This movie is so underrated. How can people not enjoying this movie better than Frozen????
(Frozen is overrated tbh I'm sorry to say, the hype annoyed the living shit outta me)
Big Hero 6 breaks gender boundary, it broke at being typical kid movie. IT BROKE MY HEART. In San-Fran Tokyo (Isn't that cool?) and a group of multi-racial superheroes (It's cooler)
Just a reminder, when you watch it, make sure you have a box of tissue beside you. You will definitely cry a lot :)

Lastly,
8. Disney's Princess The Frog, Mulan. Merida (And Alladin).
"Omg, Frozen is such a girl power movie. She's a queen and very powerful and also working hard and bla bla bla."
Bitch, WHAT A BOUT TIANA?
She's a black woman working hard to have her own restaurant in 1920's New Orleans. You know how hard that was???
"Elsa is such a powerful woman. She saved her kingdom and stuff."
Um, you know right Mulan saved China?
"Oh, the Princesses always need a prince and Elsa doesn't need one and meh meh meh"
MERIDA FROM BRAVE IS A STRONG WOMAN AND ALSO CAPABLE TOWARDS HERSELF WHY YOU GUYS ARE FORGETTING HER?!!!!
Like I said, Frozen is overrated. I'm okay about it, just I hated that Frozen is so overrated that people tend to forget that Tiana and Mulan existed and I'M NOT OKAY.
I'm not only saying for Hollywood. I mean, in my country too, they tend to cast Malays to be Indians or Chinese and vice versa. You can clEARY see this in cheesy dramas in the tv channels.
(Patutlah negara ni punya entertainment kinda sucks and talk about cheesy romantic dramas about kahwin paksa yang macam bodoh2 tu. Okay this topic I'll keep for another post. MOVE ON)
Start Casting People of Colour and Start Creating POC Characters and you'll be amazed on how much people appreciate it.
and,
STOP FUCKING WHITE-WASHING YOU STUPID TRASHCANS.
