Book Recommendations {2014 edition}

December 21, 2014

 *Slurps tea*

Finally, after been months of considering and thinking it might be annoying,
I finally did a book recommendations *pats dear self*

I'll only recommend book that I read THIS YEAR ONLY. Because this year maybe suck, but I had a good reading year.

But, bare with me, cause I'm kinda bad describing book to people. So I'll link a video review or a book trailer in each book I'll recommend. (except the malay books)

I hope this recommendations help you in find a good book.

I will separated the books in three categories;

1) Malay books

2) Books that made my heart feel numb, scared, all the feels

3) Books that ruined my emotion and I just want to curl in a corner and die

All the books I will recommend are my favourite books this year.

If you ask a book lover what is their favourite book is, you'll never get answer. They don't have a favourite book. They have favourite books.

And this is my favourites of 2014;

1) Malay Books.

AJAIB BY SYAFIQ AIZAT

One of the best Malay book I've read in my 17 years of living.

Izzat is a 12 year old boy who can see things that other people can't see; he can see ghosts.
With his ability, he will experience the moments that he never wished he have...

I expected reading this book as a horror book but it was not.

It's more than that. It's about Izzat and how he helps his friends using his six sense. Believe me, his friends are all screw up 12 year olds.

After you read this you can get the sequel AWAN.

JANGAN BACA NOVEL INI BY ISMI FA ISMAIL

Jangan baca...pfttt...aku baca juga.

Seriously, this book screwed up my brain into mashed potatoes. I felt scared, confused when reading it. It took me two hours to finish it cause the adrenaline rush it gave.

It's kinda superstition and a little bit weird on some parts but it still worth reading.

You can get the sequel TIADA TAJUK after reading this.

2) Book that made my heart numb, scared, all the feels

THIRTEEN REASONS WHY BY JAY ASHER

I don't know about you guys. But I really enjoy serious contemporary novels.

This book follows a boy, named Clay Jenson who's one day received a box in front of his door after school.

He opened the box to find cassette tapes from a girl who committed suicide. The cassette tapes contain thirteen reasons why she killed herself. And Clay Jensen is one of her reason.

The book made me numb after reading it. I didn't cry but I felt really bad for the dead girl.

But I feel  more bad for Clay. He was nice to the girl but she put him in her reason and it made Clay frantic.

WINGER BY ANDREW SMITH

The guy ^ looks like Neil Patrick Harris. There, I finally said it.

Ryan-Dean West's life is complicated. (It is)

He's a 14 year old junior at Pine Mountain, a boarding school for rich kids. He's stuck rooming with the biggest jerk on the rugby team in the dorm for troublemakers. And he's totally in love with his best friend, Annie, who thinks he's a little kid.

To be honest, reading on Ryan's POV was hard because he's young and swears a lot. And he's so stubborn and doesn't thinks straight sometimes.

But the other characters in this book are the best and realist character I've ever read. Which made this book, one of my favourites.

You think it's a lighthearted book?

No.

If you read this book, I need you to get ready because the ending will crushed your heart so bad. Because nobody expect that the ending will end that way.

Spoiler free review;

The sequel STAND OFF will coming next year (CANT WAIT ^^)

TO ALL THE BOYS I'VE LOVED BEFORE BY JENNY HAN

Lara Jean keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her.

Every time Lara have a crush on someone, she wrote a letter to him and keep the letter in the box. As memories for her heart.

But one day, her secret revealed, her letters are mailed to the five boys she had a crush on and Lara's life turned out of control.

This book sounds so cliche but its not. Its about Lara's family. It's about her finding herself and that made this book sound so near to every girl's heart.

I enjoyed this book. I can relate to Lara so well. She awkward and little bit quiet.

Seriously I NEED the second book; P.S I STILL LOVE YOU (it's coming out next year yasss)

Out all five of Lara's crushes, my favourite is probably Peter I don know he's unpredictable and funny and a genuinely a good person.

EVERY DAY BY DAVID LEVITHAN

The main character named is A. Just A.

A is not a person. A doesn't have any gender. Or any body. A is a soul that every day will change body and live the person's life for one day and the next day A will change to another body again. Until one day A entered a body of a boy and fell in love with his girlfriend.

The book is kinda hard to explain but you need to read it. It's different and unique and beautiful.

I cried like a total loser after finishing it.

ATTACHMENTS BY RAINBOW ROWELL

Yeay, a Rainbow Rowell book!!!

This is an adult book. And it's Rainbow Rowell's debut novel and it so good.

Set in the 90's (yes the 90's where everything was easier back then)

In the 90's, the Internet was pretty new. And e-mails too.

28 year old Lincoln is still try to figure his life out. And so, he took a job as a night security guard in a local newspapers company (I can't remember)

His job is to check e-mails to see if the workers search anything inappropriate or not and he need to write a report about it. And he hates his job.

One night, Lincoln came across Beth and Jennifer's e-mails. He know he should report them. But he can't help being entertained- and captivated- by their stories.

By the time Lincoln realizes he's falling for Beth, it's way too late to introduced himself.

What would he say...?

I giggled so hard reading this book. I couldn't help myself to imagined Andrew Garfield as Lincoln.

Lincoln is so adorable and every single time he achieved something I was like
"Oh my god, Lincoln, I'm so proud of you!!!'

This is probably my favourite adult book.

MORE THAN THIS BY PATRICK NESS

This books starts with a boy drowning. Desperate and alone in his final moments. He dies.

But THEN he wakes. Naked, bruised and thirsty, but alive.

I mean like, how could this be?

He wakes up in an old neighborhood. There are nobody there. The place is deserted. And the boy need to figure out why....

The books started slow for me and then boom here was my heart beating fast again.

If you read this book, make sure you start it not knowing anything. Don't search for spoilers. Just read it. But it's more than 400 pages of book. It takes time to understand the plot.

But believe me, this book is worth it, it full of suspense and panic moments.
The bad guy literally scared the living shit outta me every time he showed up.

And it's also by Patrick Ness, one of the best authors in the UK.

Spoiler Free review;

WE WERE LIARS BY E.LOCKHART

JUST, go in to this book not knowing anything please.

The only thing you have to know about this book is that it's a story about this rich family called, the Sinclairs, who own an island.

That's it.

Read it. The plot twist will screw you.

MISS PEREGRINE'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN BY RANSOM RIGGS

Jacob Portman is a 16 year old boy who always love his grandfather's stories.

Growing up listening about how his grandfather used to live in an orphanage in Wales in a deserted island that had children with special abilities, made Jacob thought it was only a silly story that his grandfather created for him.

Or so he taught.

After a tragedy happened, Jacob must face the real truth. He must travel to Wales. It becomes clear that Miss Peregrine's children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow- impossible though it seems- they may still be alive.

This books is so beautiful. It has vintage pictures in it that connected to the stories and it it's so unique.

But the OTP in this book, I don't ship the OTP.

And this book will turn in to a MOVIE (YASSSS) and it's rumored that Asa Butterfield will play Jacob Portman (please be Jacob...please be Jacob...please...)

I hope Asa get the deal though. I want him to be Jacob. He's perfect for Jacob.

3) Books that ruined my emotions that I want to curl in a corner and die

ARISTOTLE AND DANTE DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE BY BENJAMIN ALIRE SÀENZ

First of all. The cover if GORGEOUS.

A book about two boys, named after a Greek and a Roman, Aristotle and Dante, that turned out to be unlikely friends.

They're both different from one another. But this book captures so much in life and how teenagers react on things, and how their parents react on things. Ari and Dante's friendship is so beautiful and powerful.

This book is poetic and beautiful. I love it since the first page of reading it.

MONSTER'S CALLS BY PATRICK NESS

Yes. Another Patrick Ness's novel.

Monster's Calls made me cried since the first page of reading it. And I never cried so hard on a book before like I cried for this. Harder than I cried for TFiOS and Blood of Olympus.

Monster's Calls follows a 13 year old boy named Conor who have always have nightmares on this monster since his mother went for treatments. But he can't go to his mom. His mom is sick and Conor thinks he need to grow up and be mature for his mother.

But one night, a monster came at his window.

But the monster isn't the one Conor expecting. Conor expected the monster from his dreams, the one with darkness and the wind and the screaming....

But this monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And he came for the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.

It wants the truth.

A freaking good book. It suitable for all ages and it makes a good bedtime story.
But make sure you buy this edition. Because it has pictures in it. The UK version doesn't and it's ugly.

BOOK TRAILER:

ELEANOR AND PARK BY RAINBOW ROWELL

Of all Rainbow Rowell's books, Eleanor and Park is my fovourite.

This book is about two misfits in the 80's.

I mean like, Park is the most cutest guy ever. He loves comics and he loves music. And he's half Korean. He's like perfection,

Eleanor and Park's relationship is so adorable like they dislike each other at first and then they grow I love this book so much and it always have that special place in my heart *cries*

And the end crushed my soul.

It also will turn into a movie.

I want Park to be exactly like the Park I read. And it will hard to find considering he looks Asian but have green eyes. But imagine the actor playing Park looks exactly like Park we read. It would be so perfect.

THE MAZE RUNNER TRILOGY BY JAMES DASHNER

I know the movie is awesome.

But seriously, read the books.

If you watch the movie and don't read the books, I'm telling you;

Newt (my love) and Gally used to be a runners but Newt's leg got injured and Gally got stung by a Griever and he scared of the maze since then. Yes, Gally got stung but his will to survive was so strong that it healed him.

There are reasons why Gally was a prick to Thomas. And book Teresa and movie Teresa are different. Book Teresa knows about WCKD and she helps Thomas remembering and escaping the maze.

Movie Newt is perfect. Book Minho is sassy as hell.

Many Booktubers hate this trilogy. I was going to TMR with low expectations. And it turned out TMR is one of my fovourite series of all time.

The books are fast-paste and mysterious and frustrating at times but it's good. The characters react the way normal teenagers would react in that kind circumstances.

For me, Thomas is an annoying character but like him, the readers want answers too. But him asking the same questions over and over again makes me wanted to strangle him. I like Gally more than I like him to be honest even though Gally is an asshole.

But, as the books went, Thomas develop so much and it made me so happy that he's caution around people and only believes in Minho and Newt.

In conclusion, read the books.

If not, be prepare to get heart crush and cry in The Death Cure movie.

Nerdy book review ^

REALITY BOY BY A.S.KING

THIS IS MY ULTIMATE FAVOURITE BOOK OF 2014.

Gerald Faust started feeling angry even before his mother invited a reality TV crew into their home when he was just five years old. Twelve years later, he's still haunted by his rage-filled youth, and his anger issues have resulted in violent outburst and zero friends. No one cares that Gerald has tried to learn to control himself; they're all just waiting for him to snap.

And he's starting to feel dangerously close to doing just that.

I really loved how A.S.King portrayed Gerald as a angry 17 year old.

I felt Gerald's anger and his honestly.

It was so beautifully written that I felt like I was Gerald. I hate the people he hates. I love the people he loves.

The reality boy in fact is an amazing boy.

Last but not least,

THE HEROES OF OLYMPUS SERIES BY RICK RIORDAN

I finished Blood of Olympus and I still can't read any books cause my mourning period is still strong, dude.

Do I really need to explain how much I love this series??

The books have adventures, epic battles, love and friendship. And awesome OTPs.
What more could you ask for a book?

It has amazing characters *cough* Leo *cough*
I loveeeeeeee the series so much it hurts.

That's a wrap!!!

Recommendations from this blogger.
I know this post kinda sucks but I tried okay. I tried.

Read books. Care  about things. Know the world problems by words. Help your own self from getting stress over silly things by jumping into an epic world.

Consider this;

“We read books to find out who we are. What other people, real or imaginary, do and think and feel... is an essential guide to our understanding of what we ourselves are and may become.”
― Ursula K. Le Guin
